Water Wise

Why save water?
It's a reasonable question - after all, this country seems to have its fair share of rain. But things are changing:

Population Growth Thames Water currently supplies 7.6 million customers. This is predicted to rise to 8 million over the next 20 years.

Smaller Household Size
When people live in the same house, they often share the water that they use for certain activities, such as washing up, cooking, washing clothes, even bathing! So they use less water than they would if they lived in separate houses. The current trend towards smaller households means that the potential for these communal savings is reduced and the water demand is on the increase.

More Water-Using Appliances
Few homes are without a washing machine these days, and dishwasher ownership is increasing too. Power showers provide a luxurious wash and jet car wash systems claim to take the hard work out of cleaning your car. With the growing popularity of gardening, sprinklers and hosepipes are regularly used in many gardens.

Climate Change
Scientists predict that the temperature in the UK will rise significantly by the year 2030. Already, the Environment Agency has identified the Thames Valley region as having the lowest amount of water available per person in the UK, so we all need to make sure we are using it wisely.
