The Global Water Issues

Welcome to the World Water section, here you will find the background to many of the issues surrounding our most vital resource, with links to some of the leading web sites. Many organisations are seeking to put the subject of water high on the agenda at the Earth Summit in Johannesburg in 2002. In the last Earth Summit ten years ago the International Community declared that 'water management was better than wastefulness' and 'acceptable sustainable development was the way of the future.' However, 1.4 billion people - more than a fifth of the world's population still don't have enough clean water.
